1447 | Burl Duncan, 91, of Linville, NC passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Born on September 12, 1928, he was the son of the late James and Ruby Duncan. Burl was a member of Crossnore Presbyterian Church and a Korean War Veteran serving with the US Army. He retired from Caldwell County Schools and started the Job Placement Program. Burl enjoyed golf with family and friends and he and Alberta enjoyed traveling, mainly out West on summer vacations. They visited most of the US other than the north east states. Burl is survived by his wife, Alberta Rose Duncan; his son, Burl Frederick Duncan, Jr.; sister, Wilma Jean Couch; nieces and nephews, Kathi, Vince, Steve, and Melissa. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Crossnore Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm in the church with the Rev. 1448 | Burl Harmon, 80, of Elizabethton, formerly of Morganton, NC went home to be with His Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on January 22, 1936 in Beech Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late Willie and Winnie Lewis Harmon. Burl lived his later years with his family in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Bronsky Harmon, Ronis Harmon, Wallace Harmon, Renis Harmon and Eunice Harmon as well as his sisters, Lillian Mitchell and Wilma Harmon. He is survived by a sister, Deloris Wakeford; three daughters: Connie Tester and husband Mike, Debbie Madgett and husband Chuck, and Donna Bradley and husband Jeff; Four granddaughters: Kelli Pittman and husband Luke, Savannah Madgett and special friend, Shane, Emilie Madgett, Chelsea Bradley and fiance', Dustin. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Kathleen Harmon; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Harmon was retired from Crestline Furniture Company in Valdese, NC and grew Christmas trees during his retirement. He faithfully attended First Christian Church of Elizabethton and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Prayer Service. Burl loved his red Ford truck. He enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Jack and loved to fish in tournaments. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Lady Volunteers. He loved going to his church and spending time with his family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 6:00 P.M at the First Christian Church of Elizabethton with Mr. Michael Klaus and Mr. John Smith, Ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 PM until the service hour or at the home of his daughter, Debbie Madgett, at other times. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the Harmon Cemetery in Butler, TN. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at First Christian Church of Elizabethton by 10:15 A.M. to go in procession. 1449 | Burl James Reese, age 86, of Morganton, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his residence. He was born on June 22, 1931 in Johnson County, TN to the late Ed H. and Sarah Johnson Reese. Mr. Reese was also preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Reese Wallace, one brother; Arvil Reese and one sister; Jewel Reese. Mr. Reese was a retired farmer and Inspector with Bernhardt Furniture. Mr. Reese was a loving and devoted husband and father, and adored his grandchildren dearly. He loved his Lord and Savior and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nola Price Reese of the home; one son, Joel "JC" Reese of Granite Falls; one daughter, Tracy Reese Watson and husband Michael "Weezie" of Lenoir. He is also survived by one brother; Johnny Reese and wife JoAnn of Mountain City, TN; two sisters, Marie Reese Mast of Cove Creek, NC, and Betty Reese Lewis of Callahan, FL. The special joys of his life were his grandchildren; Jonathan L. Wallace and wife Jessie, Jacob R. Wallace and wife Jennifer, Michelle W. Bentley and husband Dusty and Chris W. Watson. Mr. Reese also has eight great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Reverend Billy Mitchell. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 PM one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. 1450 | Burl Lee Wilson, age 93, of the Silverstone Community in Zionville, went to rest eternally with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, November 6, 2016. Burl was born October 16, 1923, a son of Baxter and Lily Wilson. He worked for 50 years at the Burley Tobacco Warehouses as a floor manager. Burl was known in the Silverstone Community as the "Lawnmower Man" and repaired small engines. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burl is survived by his wife of 74 years. Bertha Sanders Wilson; four children, Sonny Wilson and wife Hilda, Tommy Wilson and wife Carolyn, Gail Dotson and husband Tommy, and Darlene Hicks and husband Jimmy; eight grandchildren, Preacher Derick Wilson and wife Holli, Debbie Warren and husband John, Angie Norris, Preacher T.J. Wilson and wife Poppy, Cindy Sullivan and husband Craig, Katrina Hicks and husband Mike, Bradley Hicks and wife Shannon, and Kendra Hicks; two brothers, Jerry Wilson and Snook Wilson and wife Etta; three sisters, Pearl Fletcher, Anabelle Martin and husband Asa, and Emma Jean Blackburn and husband Bill. He is also survived by twenty-four great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Duane Wilson and Jamie Duran Hicks; one granddaughter-in-law, Angela Wilson; four brothers, J.B., Clayton "Cricket", Jim, and Henry Wilson, and three sisters, Edith Wilson, Edna Tester, and IvaLee Reece. Funeral services for Burl Lee Wilson will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2016, at 3:00 o'clock, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 3:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Herbert McCoy, Preacher Derick Wilson, and Preacher T.J. Wilson.
